Gaylord Elwood Hunt, age 76 of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born June 4, 1935 in Tekonsha, MI to Donald and Leatha (Smith) Hunt. He graduated from Marshall high School in 1953 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1960.Gaylord married Charlotte Ward on November 11, 1961 and they have lived in Burlington for over 46 years. During his lifetime Gaylord worked at the foundries in both Albion and Coldwater. He employed at Kellogg’s for 29 ½ years and then after retirement he worked 10 years for Royal Chevrolet.
Gaylord had accepted Jesus as his personal savior and was a very active member of the Burlington Church of God where he was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and over the years was involved with Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, a member of the ushering staff, helping with the Wednesday night Children’s Program, as well as helping with janitorial and yard work. Gaylord had the honor of being a delegate to the Michigan General Assembly of the Church of God and he enjoyed attending Warner Camp meeting in Gransd Junction, MI. Gaylord is especially remembered for having started the Pastor Prayer Support Group which meets once per month.
Surviving are his wife Charlotte of Burlington, son Gaylord Hunt Jr. of South Carolina, a sister Marlena Tate of Mt. Clemens, MI a brother Shirley Smith also of Mt. Clemens, MI. , and a granddaughter Brianna Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James Hunt in 2000 and a brother Earl Hunt in 1958.
Visitation will be 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Burlington Church of God. Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Philip B. Palmer officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Burlington Church of God.
