Battle Creek
John K. Bishop, age 83, of Battle Creek passed away on December 9, 2006 in Battle Creek after a long illness. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on December 22, 1922 to Kellogg M. and Merna (Snyder) Bishop.
After his graduation from Athens High School in 1941, John joined the Navy during WW II. After serving his country he became a member of the Carpenters Union #0525 in Kalamazoo and worked various carpentry jobs until retiring in 1987.
On November 13, 1944 he married Betty Wesner in Athens, where they resided until they divorced in 1969. In 1971 he married Evelyn Converse. She preceded him in death in 1991.
Surviving are children, Mary Ann (Jerry) Breitbach of Topeka, KS, Michael (Norma) Bishop of Fort Wayne, IN, Leslie (Keith) Baker of Battle Creek, MI, Patrick (Coleen) Bishop of White Hall, MI and Danice (Marty) Williams of Jacksonville, FL; step children Shireen (Larry) Voss of Athens, MI and Darwin (Kelly) Converse of Starke, FL. Also surviving are 16 grand children and 16 great grand children, 4 step grand children and 4 step great grand children.
Also surviving are sisters, Barbara Danilowiez of Wilmington, NC, Mary Wesner of Battle Creek, MI and Carol Bishop of Denver, CO and a brother, Fred Bishop of Athens, MI.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce (Fern) Bishop of Battle Creek, MI.
John enjoyed baseball, especially the Battle Creek Bear Cats and belonged to their Booster Club. He was a member of the Athens VFW Post #5319 and the American Legion Post #225 of Hickory Corners.
Cremation has taken place and services will be held at Fort Custer at a later date.
