Dick (Richard) Dean Inman, 86, of Athens went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12th, 2012 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings. Dick was born at home on November 24th, 1925 in Athens, where he attended the Athens School house until the 8th grade.
He began farming at a young age. Dick raised cattle, hogs, and crops. He farmed over 250 acres of his own, as well as several neighbor’s farms for many years. He loved his John Deere tractors and owned many different models.
Dick also retired from Athens Area Schools last year where he worked as a custodian and grounds keeper for 20 yrs. He attended First Wesleyan Church in Battle Creek.
Dick is survived by his 2 daughters and their spouses Mary J. (Inman) and Rick Van Beek, Betsy A. (Inman) and Jerry Card. Five grand children Rachel, Madyson and Hunter Van Beek, Cody and Paige Cords. He had many wonderful neighbors and friends who were very involved in his life including the Smittendorf, McClure and McMaster families, and all the staff at the Athens Area Schools.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Pearl Inman, and his brother Royce Inman.
Viewing at Spencer Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 15th 2012, 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16th 2012, at Athens Middle School with Pastor David Farrell, Officiating. All memorials to be sent in Dick’s name to Athens Area Schools. Burial Burr Oak Cemetery, Athens, followed by a dinner at Athens Middle School.
