Clyde Edward Thompson age 85 of Athens, MI passed away peacefully Saturday December 31st, 2011 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI.   He was born on August 24th, 1926 to Carlton and Crystal Thompson of Coldwater, MI.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 in WWII.  He was a lifetime member of the Athens VFW Post #5319.  He retired from Post Cereals in 1984 after 33 years of service.

He married Mary Marie Minnick on July 30th, 1949.  They lived in Coldwater where they had three daughters and one son.  In 1964 the family relocated to Athens, MI where they lived for the remainder of their lives.  Clyde was very passionate about his involvement in the community.  He volunteered at the Athens Food Pantry and the Athens Youth Council Maple Sugar Project.  He also enjoyed helping his friends, family and neighbors in many different ways.

He is survived by his daughters Kathryn Hewitt, Nona Thompson and Angela Williams of Athens, MI and son Brian (Wendy) Thompson of Colon, MI; brother Carlton Thompson of Athens, MI; sister Claudette (Lloyd) Hudson of Battle Creek, MI; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Carlton and Crystal, siblings Richard Thompson, Beverly Hurlbert, Robert Thompson and Arnold Thompson.

A time of remembrance will be held for Clyde Thompson at Spencer Family Funeral Home on Saturday January 7th, 2012 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.  All family and friends are invited to come and share your memories and celebrate Clyde’s life.
