Newton Township Joan “Jo” Densham, 90, of Ceresco, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at Oak Crest’s Cherrywood Manor, Jenison, MI. She had been in declining health for several years. Joan was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Findlay, OH, to Robert R. and Enid (Stafford) Williams. She graduated from Central High School (1939) Lansing, MI. and Comptometer School, Lansing (1940). She married William L. Densham on June 16, 1940 in Ohio. He died Nov. 29, 1997. A former resident of Dexter, MI., she and her husband operated a dairy farm as well as a John Deere Implement business. At Dexter, she was active in Farm Bureau, Washtenaw Soil Conservation District, PTA, 4-H, Webster Twp. Extension Group and St. James Church. They moved to Newton Township in 1959 where they expanded their business, “Jobil Farms”. She held the office of Newton Township Treasurer (2 terms) and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Michigan Soybean Association’s Promotion and Education Committee. Locally, Joan was active with 4-H, Newton Fire Department Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Calhoun Co. Soil Conservation District, Calhoun County Farm Bureau, Fredonia Grange and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and “Good Samaritan Hospice”. She loved her family and especially her Great-Grandchildren who brought her so much joy in later years. Her hobbies included raising beautiful flowers and a large vegetable garden, bowling, playing the organ, card games, traveling the country in their RV and joining with their friends from the Michigan Stump Jumpers RV Group. She is survived by her children, William L. (Terri) Densham of Los Gatos, CA., Michael E. (Francis) Densham of Kalamazoo, Patricia S. (Gerald) Rintamaki of Cheboygan, Mark R. (Sandra) Densham of Grandville, and Timothy B. (Tracy) Densham of Middleville; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, William “Bill”, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Echo Younglove, Florence Barbier-Eversole, Christine Strehl, Jean Craig, and her brother, Roy Williams. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Friday, February 3, 2012at the Spencer Family Funeral Home, Athens. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Newton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Powers officiating. Burial Newton Cemetery.
