Andrew J. Boyce, age 90 of Athens, passed away at home April 28, 2012. He was born in Athens on March 4, 1922 to Fred J. Boyce and Estella (Warren) Boyce. He was preceded in death by his Wife Ora (Hampton) Boyce of 70 years on October 30, 2011.

Andrew is survived by his son Robert (Joyce) Boyce of Athens and daughter Sharon (Gail) Witter of Carson City, MI; grandchildren Joan (Mark) Hiatt, Dawn (Jay) Hartel, Travis (Marlene) Witter; great grandchildren Maxell (Libby) Hiatt, Maveric Hiatt, Katie, Amber (Cory) Whitcomb, Dominique Philips, Kaitlynn and Karlye Hartel, Sydney and Clay Witter, Elizabeth and Jason Hartel; and great-great grandchildren Lacey, Maxwell II and Isabelle Hiatt, (Katies’ Baby) and Avery Whitcomb.

He served 30 years in the US Navy and retired as SCPO/EB. During his 30 years he served on the USS Joy, Frank Knox, USSN Peidmont  and other various naval ships. He served in WWII in the South Pacific and was based in Chicago, IL, San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA. He was a signal corps instructor, served in the motor pool, was a recruiter in Alma, MI and finished his Navy career in Norfolk, VA. Andrew went on to be a professional truck driver for a few years, retiring again in 1978 and was able to spend the winters in Florida with his wife. He enjoyed boating and spending time with family and friends.

Andrew had the distinction of being the grandson of Job W. Boyce of Athens who served in the Civil War and was one of the honor guards for President Lincoln’s funeral in Springfield, IL. 

Andrew will be greatly missed by all those who have known him.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 3rd from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens. Military Services beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the Athens V.F.W. Post 5319 officiating.
